At CFC, we understand that having a deck installed is an exciting, yet disrupting time in anyone’s life. That is why we strive to make it as simple as possible. However, there are many things that need to happen before you can enjoy your deck. Consider this page your manual for what to expect during the installation process.

Before your quote

Before you can receive your quote a few things need to happen.First, you need to contact one our our qualified estimators and answer a few questions about your project.  Typically what we’ll need to know is: approximate footage, brand or type of decking, type of railing (if applicable), height of deck, and any things that make your project unique. If you are in the early stages of thinking about the installation project, we can help you with design ideas too. Don’t worry if you don’t know the answers to all these questions, once your estimator comes he’ll get all the necessary measurements and be able to show you samples of every brand and color that we have available. Because you are ultimately responsible for adhering to the regulations within your jurisdiction, we strongly suggest you find out what city ordinances/HOA regulations will impact your deck. We suggest you contact your city’s building department and your homeowner association office (if applicable) before you begin.

Your quote

After you’ve decided on a brand, style, and layout your estimator will measure the project and create a rendering of your deck. Then he’ll send an email with your exact quote. For most materials we deal directly with the manufacturer so your price will be highly competitive. After meeting with your estimator, agreeing on a price, and signing a contract you’ll need to send a down payment, half of the total payment before we can schedule your project.

Scheduling

Once you have sent in your down payment our scheduler will contact you to find the best date for our crews to install your deck. While you do not have to be present during the installation process there are two meetings that are important for you to be at. First, is the walkthrough. A CFC representative will meet with you to discuss details about the construction of the deck/pergola, mark the layout for the deck/pergola, and answer any final questions. A signature will be required from you to initiate the building process. All decisions regarding deck/pergola construction must be complete by the end of the initial walk through. Because alterations after this point typically affect our costs, changes after the walk through will require a Change Order and may incur additional charges. Change Order will need to be signed and returned to CFC. The other meeting is the final walkthrough, which takes place after installation.

Installation

The day has arrived. Before setting posts, you should decide where on your property you will want to have the dirt placed that will be excavated from the holes. A CFC crew will set the posts in concrete and allow the posts to set for at least 24 hours and usually longer before constructing deck/pergola. We will want to use one of our specialized small tractors with an auger to drill footings for support posts unless other arrangements have been made or deck/pergola area access is restricted. The tractor is designed for minimal impact on grass. A CFC crew will return after the concrete has set to build the remainder of the deck/pergola. Crews will start on the framing, decking, railing for decks and for pergolas crews will hang the beams, rafters, and purlins (if included on bid). Normally on decks, gates (if applicable) will be hung during this time unless custom requirements have been made or our shop has a backlog. If necessary, CFC will return once the gates are complete to be hung.

Project Completion

Final walkthrough will be provided by our Deck Foreman and this is the time to ask any questions regarding the framing, decking, railing, stairway, or additional items that have been installed. Final Walkthrough is the time to inspect the deck/pergola for any irregularities or errors exist, otherwise no claims or adjustment of any kind shall be recognized unless items are reported to CFC in writing within 10 days of final walkthrough completion. Final payment is due when the project is substantially complete as specified in the contract and initial walkthrough documents. Now all that’s left is for you to sit back and enjoy your beautiful new deck or pergola.
