Customize Your Deck

Most deck contractors will not give you any information about the design of your deck unless you have an estimator come into your home. At CFC we believe that you need to have information in order to be happy with your choices. We’ve provided a Design Center to help you make the most informed decisions on the design and installation of your deck.

Trex Decking Utah Utah Deck Materials

CFC specializes in unique deck styles. In fact a major competitor of our company based in Utah said to a customer, “If anyone can build this design, CFC can”. The customer called us up and we installed one of the biggest curves we’ve ever installed in a deck.

We’ve done everything from building massive custom decks shaped like leaves to decks with built in planters and sunken hot tubs.  If you’ve got an idea, submit it to our expert deck designer and he’ll let you know if it’s possible and what the implications are of the design.

Perhaps the most useful feature of our site is the Color Visualizer. This is a tool given to us by Trex® to help you design the deck of your dreams. Explore different color options. Try different railing styles. Expand the vision of what you thought your deck could be. Consider it the dressing room for your outdoor living space.

We’ll provide the tools you need to design any deck. We’ll also discuss with you any concepts you’ll have to make your deck be the deck of your dreams.

Remember like our competitors say: “If anyone can build [it], CFC can.”

Iron Railing with a Composite Flare

Iron railing has been a popular style of railing for quite some time on all different kinds of decks and porches.  From Composites to Hardwoods to the common Redwood deck; deck builders, contractors and DIY’s alike have been using them.  This is no exception with CFC Fences and Decks working in Utah, Salt Lake, and Davis, Weber, Tooele, and Summit counties in Utah.

Custom Iron railings can be expensive and sometimes installed weeks after the deck is completed because the amount of time it takes to manufacture.  We still use custom iron, but what has been very popular this past year has been an iron product called Fortress Iron.  The reason for the popularity is that it is purchased as a panel that can then be used with different post applications.  We have been using the Trex, Timbertech, and Evergrain composite post sleeves with the Fortress panel, which ties things together very nicely.  We also offer another composite flare.  Fortress Iron is also made so that with a simple bracket you can add a top rail, whether using a wood or composite. The 2×4 dresses it up and also makes it nice to set a drink on while enjoying the view.

The picture is from a job completed this last year in Orem, Ut.  The materials used were the Trex Transcend posts and 2×4 top caps, with the Fortress Iron in Bronze.

Trex Transcend Rope Swing

Rope Swing was one of the new Trex Transcend colors to come out in 2012. This color I would have to admit was not one of my favorites, but our first install of this color changed my mind. It was a soft color that complimented the brick on this home in Orem, Utah. The homeowner chose to accent the Rope Swing color with the rich dark brown color Vintage Lantern. We not only wrapped the outside in the dark but also did a two piece border around the top. James was tired of seeing his broken up concrete patio and wanted to not only cover it but enlarge the space for family get-togethers. As soon as the project was completed James took no time in setting things in order, as you can tell by the picture he had if filled with his tables and chairs ready for the family. Framed at 12” o.c. and with the border CFC Fences and Decks were able to run the decking at a diagonal and eliminate any seams throughout the entire deck, giving it a clean and finished look.

Introduction of Composite Decking Boards

For nearly 25 years CFC Fences and Decks has been installing decks and fences throughout the state of Utah. From our early beginnings in the late 80’s there were relatively few choices for decking materials.  If you wanted a deck built it was built with wood, predominantly from redwood. While this product is durable and very beautiful ( for the first few years) it takes considerable maintenance and care. Each year it requires a sealant to be applied to not only keep the wood looking good but to increase its longevity.

Custom, Irregular Trex Composite Deck Design Utah Contractor Decking Utah

In the late  90’s a new innovative product entered the market place destined to change the market place forever.  This product introduced by Trex Company was a composite decking board made from recycled wood and plastic bags. Although only offering one color option it soon began to capture market share by those who preferred an alternative low maintenance product and a product that was far more resilient than its wood competitor. Within a few years Trex introduced several new color options for its decking line with addition options for composite railings as well. Soon other companies begin to enter the market place, somewhat slowly at first and then within a decade the market had seen a dozen or more companies introduce a composite decking board. Almost as soon as these companies would get there product to the market they would be closing their doors.  However,  three additional composite manufactures besides Trex  began to gain a foot hold in the market albeit slowly. Timbertech, Fiberon, and Evergrain were beginning to give the leading Trex manufacture a run for its money. The market was now beginning to get interesting for not only deck builders and contractors in Utah but across the country as well. New innovative composite products and improvements were showing up yearly as these competing manufactures vied for market share. As a result the composite deck board has continued to not only become more popular, more affordable, and more durable than ever before. Color options are almost limitless. Redwood decking it seems has finally met its match. It is a rare thing now to sell or install a redwood deck. When you can choose from a composite deck board that looks like wood, has a 25 year warranty, does not fade, does not stain, is scratch resistant, and  is only slightly more expensive than  redwood,  is easy to see why composite deck boards are taking over the market.

Trex Transcend deck with Bronze Railing and Trex Seclusions Wrap

There are some projects that just look good. The colors match perfectly with the house and other landscaping that has been done. It all comes together so well that you can’t help but be pleased. This job in Pleasant Grove Utah is one of those jobs.

This deck is a Trex Transcend decking with bronzed iron railing. The homeowners said they wanted the top level of the deck finished this year and next year they’re going to expand it with another level and wrap around stairs. The most interesting aspect of this deck is the under the deck space.

We’ve talked about using Trex RainEscapes to create an outdoor room, but what these homeowners did was create an outdoor storage space under their deck with Trex Seclusions Composite Fencing. By wrapping the bottom of their deck with Trex Seclusions they are able to keep their things out of the elements and safe in their storage area. It creates a seamless look under their deck.

Trex Decking with Trex Railing Gate

We’re often asked if there is any way to enclose deck railing. These customers are looking for a way to keep their dogs or kids or other animals safe. CFC supplies Trex Railing gates, specifically made to match the look of all railing styles and colors.

This deck in Holladay Utah wanted to keep their dogs on their upper level deck without having to worry. They had a Trex Transcend railing gate installed to fix this problem.

Trex Transcend in Orem Utah

Our latest project is a Trex Transcend deck, Spiced Rum and with a Vintage Lantern border and trim. This deck is special because it contains built in planters, a bench and hot tub area.

The owner said that he and his family threw a party the night after completing his deck. The party went off without a hitch and everyone loved his new Transcend Deck.

Trex Decking Materials

Trex decking products are all top of the line systems for your backyard and home. What makes them so unique? For this post, we’re going to consider the differences and strengths that each line (Transcend, Accents, and Enhance) has and why you should consider it for your DIY deck project.

Transcend Composite Decking

Trex Composite Decking

Transcend is a revolutionary product. Its core is a basic composite material: strong, durable, and reliable. However, the difference here is its outer shell. The Transcend™ line’s protective shell is warrantied against fading, staining, and scratching. Each decking board is protected on three sides that protect against the element for superior weather protection.

I have seen a lot of stuff spilled on decks before; however, I have never seen anything impossible to get off of Transcend. I’ve seen tables shift on decks that have left scratches and dents in any other material; however, I’ve never seen anything scratch Transcends.

The one downside with this product is it retains heat. However, all Trex decking materials retain heat like this. The best way to avoid it is to install a pergola or other shade structure to keep the heat off.

Accents Composite Decking

Trex Composite Decking

Accents is the next best thing to Transcends. It comes with the same great stain resistance, but does not have the tough outer coating that allows Transcends to be scratch and fade resistant. However, this product comes in the same colors as Trex Seclusions fencing so they are the perfect match for your yard.

Enhance Composite Decking

Trex Composite Decking

Like Transcend, the high-performance of Trex Enhance is due to a revolutionary three-sided shell that protects against staining, fading and mold. Enhance won’t rot, warp, crack or splinter – and upkeep is hassle- free. Unlike wood, the product requires no sanding, staining or painting, and its protective shell defends against severe weather and heavy foot traffic while being extremely low maintenance. In fact, spills wash off easily with just soap and water. The entire Enhance decking collection is backed by a 20-year Limited Residential Fade and Stain Warranty for lasting peace-of-mind.

Whatever material you decide to use, Trex is perfect solution for your decking needs.
